Manifesto 2.0, yo!

1. If a large corporation were to go out of business, causing severe problems of unemployment and greatly disrupting the market, should the federal government subsidize them?

The federal government should subsidize a large corporation if it were threatening to go out of business because of the huge impact that would have on the economy. Unemployment problems and a disrupted market would have a great negative impact on the economy, so the company should be able to get support from the government in order to stay in business.

2. After looking at the 2011 budget (revenues & expenditures), my manifesto leads me to criticize it because...

More money was spent than was gained. Furthermore, most of the money that was gained was gained from personal income - people's hard-earned money. It is upsetting that all of the money that is taken from people is being used and yet we are still digging ourselves further and further into debt. I think we need to find an alternate source for our revenue so that the bulk of it is not on the shoulders of hardworking Americans. I think the expenditures are pretty well distributed, although I think the government should invest more into educating the future of America.

3. In keeping with my manifesto and after watching the movie I.O.U.S.A. explain the debt crisis faced by our nation, I propose the following solution...

I believe the taxation rate for the highest tax bracket should be raised in order to generate more income. Although many of the people in that tax bracket have worked hard to obtain the financial stability they have, they are able to afford luxuries that many lower income families cannot. Therefore, it is not fair to expect struggling families to pay the same rate as those who can easily afford it. As more revenue is generated from this increase in taxes on the high income bracket, federal spending should be reduced so as not to plummet us further into debt.
